@thetinmen EONE !?! BILLON in 'gender pay gap' claims (and you're paying for it
@thetinmen Local councils have paid more than E1,000,000,000 in tax payer money; to settle 30,000 legal claims from women demanding 'equal pay' to men UK Guhaian Equalpay Equalpay settlements for female council workers pass Elbn GMB union says 30,000 claims settled with six local councils for average of E30,000 and expects 10,000 more in 2026 (with 10,000 more claims expected in 20261)
@thetinmen The claim is that council jobs which are dominated by women, should be paid equally to those dominated by men. Female dominated: Teaching assistants Male dominated: Refuse collectors (even if they are completely different jobs)
@thetinmen Keowa V6s Male dominated: Street cleaners Female dominated: Receptionis& But, whilst these are all council employees, and each serve an important purpose, should they_ all really be paid the same? Female dominated: Catering assistant Male dominated: Road workers

@thetinmen Of course being a teaching assistant or shelf stacker is tough and at times unpleasant_ But there is a perfectly logical reason why these roles are paid less than bin men or Warehouse workers_ And it has nothing to do with sex discrimination or women's work being undervalued. It is simply that fewer people want to work as bin men or warehouse workers. The higher pay is necessary to coax people into these jobs.' Lauren Smith, Staff Writer at Spiked
@thetinmen In the meantime, it looks like 2026 will be much of the same_ Employers need to take note in 2026 ~ wherever GMB sees women being underpaid compared to men, in the public or private sector, we are coming for you.' 99 Rhea Wolfson, Head of Industrial Relations, GMB
13h ago @thetinmen Iol this is so absurd. The men aren't paid more because they're men they're paid more COS who the fuck wants to work with garbage vs sitting in an office: 13h ago Get these ladies out on the bin lorries asap, and train the guys up on slowly manually populating antiquated databases and spread sheets: 12h ago As a unionist find this just absurd: How is a manual labour job equal to these others? This seems to me more like people self-selecting into roles they preferred, what are the actual grounds for the claim? Is this equality"? Completely absurd because it ignores the reality of the market: Different jobs, different conditions but equal pay makes no sense: Completely ignores the supplyldemand dynamics of the real world. 13h ago The Equality Act needs amending to stop these ridiculous claims Jobs with more pleasant working conditions paying less isn't discrimination, it's the market at work: What do you think? @thetinmen Guardian celebrating bankrupting councils, leading to brutal service cuts and tax increases. So a tiny number of women; who have no valid claim to being underpaid, can get money they don't deserve. Sums up how out of touch the modern left is.

The infamous ‘pay gap’ is one of the most contentious, misunderstood issues within gender equality. So often waylaid with soundbites, and outdated, ’77 cents to the dollar’ claims; the gap is never fully understood, and so, will never be closed. In simple terms – Women in the west, who do the same jobs as a man, for the same hours, at the same level, are paid the same as men (well, 99.5 cents to the dollar). Such a finding has been substantiated, again and again, over the years, as a huge, hard-won success story, that we should celebrate… yet never want to. Meanwhile – The so-called ‘gaps’ that do remain, are exploited, so various parties can fill their pockets with cash. And now, this money-grab is rolling into local councils; where unions (the GMB), representing women, argue that a male bin collector should be paid the same as a female teaching assistant, because both offer “equal value”. Which is absurd. Not only is ‘value’ impossible to define, but it overlooks the common sense observation that these jobs aren’t the same. When I rush outside, having forgotten to take out the bins every week; and I see a group of exhausted men, at 5am, collecting rubbish in the freezing cold, I tell myself I could never do such a job, and am full of admiration for those who can. It’s a hard, dirty, unsociable, dangerous, thankless, extremely important job, that keeps society going. And whilst teaching assistants and admin staff have their hard times too – they are not the same – and, no, shouldn’t be be paid the same. The reason why bin collectors, sewage or road workers, are paid more than a receptionist, is because nobody would do them otherwise. So if you want to be paid like a bin collector, then guess what, apply to be one, and I’ll see you too in the blistering cold at 5am. These common sense facts are lost on the GMB and its opportunistic, litigigously trigger-happy grifters; who are pummeling cash-strapped councils (already reeling from budget cuts), to extract more than a BILLION pounds from their already empty coffers. So is this what equality really is? And have we lost sight of “equal pay for equal work”? What do you think?
