‘Why are you doing this?’
The is a question I often stumble across, and usually it comes part-and-parcel with an angry looking scowl, a finger in the face, and little bits of spittle, spat everywhere.
I am usually granted just a few seconds to answer this question, before more scoffs and scowls, angry yells and interruptions are thrown my way – so allow me to give you an answer…
The reason is this: these are important issues.
When men make up the majority of the homeless, drug addicted, and the incarcerated…
When they have higher mortality rates at every age, worse health outcomes in every group, dominate nine of the top ten causes of death, and live shorter lives in every country…
When boys are behind at nearly every stage of education, in every western country, and have been for decades…
And when suicide remains the greatest risk of death to myself, and all young men, today and every day, until I’m about 50…
Then I think the better question is – ‘why are so many doing nothing?’
And I can point fingers too.
Why has the feminist movement, and the left more broadly, abandoned such issues and substituted in an army of naive, angry, whinos instead?
So maybe don’t ask why am I here, instead ask, where is everyone else?
