Some would have you believe that experiences of sexual harassment are asymmetrical, and felt exclusively by women. And whilst overt sexual harassment against women remains pervasive within society, we must ensure we don’t leave the many men who are also impacted behind. Because the experiences of men and boys is a unique one. With many of those harassed by women often told its ‘no big deal’, or worse, something to be grateful for. The ‘lucky boy’ phenomenon is very real. And it does its damage by obfuscating predatory behaviour, and recategorising harassment or even abuse, into seemingly benign new forms. Its impact is real also. Leading to men and boys simply not spotting harassment. Perhaps they do, but choose not to talk about it. Or maybe they have; but were ignored, laughed at or mocked as a result ? Whatever the experience, or unique its nature; sexual harassment against men is something that ought to be spoken about and confronted, openly. So have you been sexually harassed? And what were your experiences of trying to speak about it? ~ Study Images by Gradienta, Hang Niu, Mattheus Frade, Joshua Hoehne, from Unsplash.
