Happy #InternationalWomensDay 2025! The day in the calendar where @thetinmen turns the spotlight on the incredible work of women around the world, and throughout history. And I know – Today your feeds will be full of heart-aching tales of women’s suffering, or cynical outlooks on the progress yet to be made; and whilst such perspectives are necessary, I have always struggled to place women so squarely in such a place of perpetual victimhood, of childlike weakness, doom and gloom, and of course, ‘oppression’. I am not saying such things do not exist, they do, and at levels that shame all of us; but to me, the women of my life have defined themselves, and inspired me, not through weakness, but through courage, heroism, hard work and success. I’ve said it before – but the protagonists, and greatest role models in my life, have mostly been women, who have shaped who I am, how I speak, behave, and navigate life, through their rugged, kind hands, their bright eyes, and ambitious world views. These women never cowed away, but stood tall; never beaten, or broken by their experiences of pain, but defined by it. They are, as they always have been, my heroes. And so to that – to mark International Women’s Day, I will continue to celebrate and champion the strength of women, those who we know, and the many more we don’t, from all walks of life, from all moments in history, and from every corner of the world.
