Girl math, a new meme that pokes harmless fun at the way women manage their finances, spend their money, and live their lives. Buying something with cash? Well that means it’s free. Returning clothing to the store? Congrats, you made money. Going on holiday for the weekend, but packed 10 days worth of closing? Yup. It’s Girl Math. Hilarious, creative, and harmless; ‘Girl Math’ was a self deprecating meme that reminded the world of women’s wit, charm, and imagination. And then – as night follows day – so came Boy Math. But unlike its predecessor, it was not used to make cute jokes about men – perhaps targeting their strange workout regimes at the gym, their less than stellar Minecraft resource management, or how they try to drive 20 miles on 10 miles of petrol. No. Instead ‘Boy Math’ became just one more stick with which to hit men; held by the same army of terminally online brats, rolling out the same tired whines, followed by the same cringey whoops, cheers, and ‘yaaaaaaas girl’ pats on the back. Just one more chance for a bunch of bigots to whine about men, whilst simultaneously congratulating each other, on how ‘smart’, ‘strong’ and ‘independent’ they are. Kwweeeeen! A culture of toxicity, that is frankly obsessed with hating ‘men’ and presenting themselves as some kind of courageous go-get-em warrior at the same time. But there’s no strength in whining online. There’s nothing admirable about being a dickhead. And no truth behind blaming ‘men’ for the actions of a small minority. So what is Boy Math to you?
