No religion, culture, national identity, or parental preference, is more important than human rights. I don’t care how old, or sacred the set of beliefs, or how holy the god, I dont care how entitled a parental feels over their child’s body, I don’t care if they think it “looks better”, or if its “cleaner” (it isn’t), because none of that matters more than bodily autonomy. Despite this, hundreds of millions of baby boys, all over the world, have their bodily integrity invaded, in the most brutal ways imaginable, at the earliest possible age. Yet, somehow, there’s something even worse than this. And that is, the many forms of religious circumcision, those not performed by medical professionals, and carried out in ways far from sanitary; whose brutality is somehow allowed in modern society.
