Another day, another naive comment from Labour’s head-asshole, Jess Phillips. Another smug smile, another tone-deaf suggestion, another reminder of how the left and the Labour Party excel at alienating men, and stoking the gender war. In response to the Government’s controversial plans to ship UK prisoners off to international prisons, Jess Phillips has stepped in to suggest this should only apply to incarcerated *men*. Her reasoning is, in fact, sound – women in prison are often victims in their own right; of abuse, neglect, poverty, and trauma. Criminality is a cycle, and violence a disease, and our endless punitive punishment through the prison system really does little to solve the root cause. But where Philips reveals her ignorance, is by forgetting this applies to men. 98% of men in prison have at least one adverse childhood experience, and 78% have four or more. The male prison population are no less shaped by their environment and childhood, no less impacted by trauma, and no less the victim in their own right. But not to Philips. Who seemingly thinks men are just born bad, and therefore should be shipped off, locked up, and forgotten about, in some far flung overseas prison. I simply do not understand. The Labour Party is supposed to be about inclusion, and fighting for justice and fairness; the feminist movement is about gender equality; and yet Phillips, with her dual membership, betrays both these core tenants in one fell swoop of stupidity. I must admit, as a former member of both the Labour Party and the feminist movement, it reminds me of why I was so right to leave. It reminds me that behind the smug smile, and patronising demeanour of our so-called guardians of morality; is a mind of idiocy, hatred and arrogance. So what do you think? Are criminal men simply born bad? Or are they deserving of the same support and understanding as criminal women? ~ The compassion project Childhood and Adult Trauma in Prison populations [1] [2] [3] [4]
