The way society treats men and women is complex, and intersected with so many other variables, such as race, class, age, geographic area and sexuality. What might be right for one, is not so for another. And depending on who you are, when you were born, or where you come from, the rules change – or can invert entirely. But, that said, I have noticed one rule that I find fairly ubiquitous in underlying so many of the painful experiences of women and men, that helps understand sexism from a wider perspective. Something that makes sense of why so little is done to support vulnerable men, and also, why so many women are overlooked, and infantilised as incapable. The problem is, one side will always struggle to understand the other, unless we are truly willing to listen and learn from our opposites’ lived experiences. So in a nutshell, it’s a little like this: ~ Images by Felix Mittermeir and Mock Up Graphics from Unsplash #sexism
