The revolution in Iran rolls onward, offering the world incredible insights of heartbreaking bravery, unity and sacrifice. In it, Iranian women and men are not fighting each other, but rather together, against a shared enemy. And so beneath Iran’s tragic loss of life, is a lesson for us all. One that proves what is possible when we stop dividing ourselves by gender, and start uniting by how we are the same. Men and women, all people, each trodden on by the same boot, joining together for revolution - is the Iranian way. Meanwhile, like an angry gorilla fighting mist, our woke western progressives swing hefty lefts and savage right hooks at their own intangible ‘male oppressor’ class. With actions and words which alienate men; making enemies from allies, and drawing lines of division where they needn’t be any. These fierce western warriors are not building bridges of unity, but instead sharing sassy memes to compare men to dogs, or snakes, or literal poison; whining about men’s dating profiles, or coining yet more virtuous slogans. Here we just point fingers at each other. Calling our male alllies fragile, or trash, toxic and privileged; for they talk too much, spread their legs too damn wide, and their energy is very ‘small dick’. Incredibly I hear, “Where are the men?!” As these same people act confused or annoyed, when our men give up and go home. But not in Iran. These brave men and women fight together, and always together, to deconstruct an actual patriarchy that oppresses all of them. I hear no yawn inducing ‘bare minimum’ rhetoric. No western style whinge-fest, or fist shaking outrage. In Iran, it is revolution done together, and done right, from which we can all learn. But it’s hard to look past the tragedy, the countless lives lost or devastated; a price which too is shared by Iran’s men and women, equally.
