Not recycling. Littering. Pollution. The literal end of the world… Sometimes men can find themselves to blame for so many new and exciting things, simply by existing. ‘Man-made crisis: toxic masculinity drives climate change’, yells one headline. ‘Toxic Masculinity is killing the planet’, shouts another. ’Eating meat promotes the patriarchy’, says a particularly absurd third. Each performing Gold Medal winning performances of mental gymnastics, twisting and contorting, to tie more and more contrived issues to ‘masculinity’. Somehow not recycling is our fault. So is pollution. Ozone depletion. Meat eating, and climate change too. Yes the booming world of nonsense non-science is spitting out headlines and stirring political controversy like, well… it’s the end of the world. Who cares about science. Whatever it is, men are the problem - as the giant blob, continues to silently pull the strings of society. But amongst all the environmental carnage at their feet, one of the things I think we can credit men for, is how good we are at rewearing our clothes, holding onto them until they’re almost in bits, and hanging off our bodies. I mean I’ve seen my dad sew patches, onto the patches of his sweaters. And I’m sure he’s not the only one. Yes (in general) I’d say, as men, our tastes are frugal, and our commitment to our favourite jumper, jeans, or pair of shoes, right until their last days, is commendable. In fact, I’d go as far to call men the ‘role models’ of how to responsibility buy clothing. And in a world where fast fashion generates more waste, more pollution, and more micro plastics than ever – I’d say these are lessons worth listening to. So if we are to ‘gender’ pollution, littering, meat eating and not recycling to men; why not ‘gender’ fast fashion, wastage, and micro plastics to women? (By the way, I’m being satirical, the idea of gendering any environmental issue, is stupid) What do you think? ~ Study – Waste Couture Bloomberg Images by Rio Lectatompessy, and Gradienta. #fastfashion #environmentalism #climatechange #fastfashionsucks
