As the domestic violence industry spends its time fighting ghosts and ghouls beneath the bed, it continues to ignore the most prevalent, and least discussed cause of partner violence of all…

Spanking children.

Yes.

Despite its normalisation, hitting children teaches that child that they can solve problems and correct people’s misbehaviour through acts of violence.

So what happens when a parent socialises their child this way?

Well, naturally, they’ll be more likely use what they’ve learnt later in life, repeating the cycle of violence, and enacting it upon those closest to them, usually a partner.

And yet, despite the risks of hitting children, its links to abuse later in life, and the mountain of evidence substantiating it, the entire subject remains ignored.

Ignored by parents, ignored by the media, ignored by paediatricians, and most shockingly, ignored by the domestic violence industry itself.

Seriously, where are the domestic violence campaigns calling it out?

Why do our tax funded domestic violence services routinely parrot on about ‘male violence’ and other abstract terms like ‘the patriarchy’, when something so tangible exists, that we can all work toward ending, right now?

I hear domestic violence organisations make bold and righteous claims, but when it comes to evidence-based advocacy, I see a whole lot of nothing.

So is this about ‘ending violence’, or is this about propping up a dogmatic set of political and exclusionary beliefs, for profit?

Well, where others refuse, we can do the talking instead…

Let’s discuss childhood, the lesson often learnt as we all pass through it, and the dangers of any kind of physical punishment toward children…

What do you think?
