I often wonder how prevalent narcissism, and other dark triad personality types are within the upper echelons of the social justice movement. Because having looked behind the curtain – those people banging the drums, snapping their fingers, and shrieking from the ramparts, are usually assholes. They are not the embodiment of kindness and inclusivity as they present themselves to be; and more often than not, are some of the most narrow-minded, fragile, and unworthy individuals you could ever meet. Self-centred, self-aggrandising, and self-anointed, such people are so enamoured with themselves, their needs, and experiences, they have simply forgotten there are 8 billion people in the world, and they are just one of them. I get it. A person who feels hard done by, or wronged, around who the whole world seemingly rotates, will understandably find themselves catapulted up the rankings of social media advocacy, feminism, and even mens advocacy. Because I see it here, within mens mental health too – An army of celebrities launching acting careers, selling books and slinging merchandise, off the backs of the men whose lives are lost to suicide. The hands of these advocates are so rarely dirtied by the hard work and unpopular realities of such a topic. You will never hear them talk of men who are abused, or sexually assaulted, nor hear them speak passionatley about fathers deprived of children. No. Such topics will do tremendous harm to the very thing they care about most: themselves. And I’m bored of it. The hand-wringing of man-bunned podcasters. The endless pleas for tears. The fashion brands whose hoodies are emblazoned with a deep care for suicidal men, but whose financial accounts tell a different story. Too many fortunes have been made. Too many promises are broken. Too many words remain empty. Too many men have died as we wait for these people to grow a backbone, to put their own needs aside, and do the work they talk endlessly about. So, are we led be narcissists, are we being taken for fools? Ask yourself - who really cares, and who’s just pretending? - Study Chandler #mensmentalhealth
