Today is International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate the wonderful women in our lives, and to acknowledge and advocate for the important issues they continue to experience all around the world. I have always been an advocate for women’s rights, and a person blessed with too many amazing women in my life, to even count. And today is for those women. The beliefs and political opinions of this page are not predicated on dragging women down; minimising their lived experiences, vilifying them, or denying the importance they play in our lives. I have seen pages do this to men, and the results are not ones I want to imitate here. And I know… I do not post as often about women, and their painful journeys, but this does not mean I don’t care just as much about these things too. For ‘equality’ achieved by yelling and throwing eggs at the other side, is no kind of equality I want to be part of. For me, today is a reminder of that too. That we are in this together; and that no problem, big or small, for either side, can be solved alone. We need each other. And we need women. We need their unique perspectives, we need their passion and ferocity, we need their calm and intellect, we need their compassion and diligence. Because only weak men cannot acknowledge the strength of women. And the vibrant history of women’s rights, is a centuries long lesson from which we can all learn, and must learn, if we are to catalyse social and political change. Whilst to deny such strength, is to deny half of your greatest allies, half of your most important role models, and half of your fiercest warriors. So today is for you, our women; our teachers and heroes, our partners and family, our allies, our teachers, and above all, our friends.
