False allegations are my least favourite topic to talk about.
I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Because I understand that the subject creates a culture of disbelief around survivors, and an erosion of trust in their allegations.
I understand it makes survivors even less likely to come forward, than they already are.
But simultaneously, we must also extend the due diligence to those who claim they are being falsely accused too.
Do they not deserve justice?
Because I don’t see it happening.
The conversations I read, dominated by social media, continuously point to false allegations like they’re some sort of far out impossibility, or conspiracy theory.
Placed alongside being abducted by aliens, or being hit by an asteroid.
But they aren’t. They are real and they deserve to be talked about in a grown up, measured and productive way.
So what do you think?
Can we have that discussion here?
