Patriarchy. The elusive oppressor class that is writing laws, starting wars and shaping our politics. It’s the bogeyman beneath the bed, the gremlin in your wardrobe, the invisible hand that rules everything… But where is it? Who is it? Stop! Don’t ask impertinent questions. That’s the problem with ‘patriarchy theory’, it is so abstract and meaningless, it has become unfalsifiable. Meanwhile, there are actual real-life organisations, unelected by the public, that are influencing politicians and twisting legislation from behind the scenes. Organisations that lobby, petition and protest, that stamp their feet, and make shrill threats whenever they’re called to account. Such influence was *openly admitted* just a few months ago by our own Minister of State for Home Affairs, when questions were asked about the complete lack of strategic support for abused men and boys. ‘Where is the help for them?
