Why do we only gender the bad things men do? Toxic… violence… privilege… I know. The statistics are clear, it’s undeniable that men do commit more violence. But so too it is undeniable that men are the ones most likely to save people from violence. Yes. Men certainly have done wrong, and the history books have taught us that too. But they’ve done great things also. Risking their lives to climb buildings; kicking down doors, swimming into the floods and running toward the flames. And yet, we never hear of ‘male heroism’, ‘male bravery’, or ‘male sacrifice’? Why not? Why are these deeds so invisible to us? Why are men only judged by their worst, and never by their best? And is 9/11 the time to remind ourselves of the men who made the biggest sacrifice of all? ~ Images by Evgeniy Alyoshin and Julien Maculan on Unsplash.
