‘Yes, yes, yes, we care about abused men – but the truth is women are the VAST majority of those impacted.’ It’s a conversation I’ve been in countless times. One to describe how domestic violence is something ‘overwhelmingly’, ‘vastly’ and ‘almost exclusively’, done to women. And so, through the use of subjective and blurry semantics, the abused men in need of help who haven’t a voice, are put back in their box. But has anyone actually wondered, what is a ‘vast majority?’ Isn’t it rather subjective, and does it even matter? For even if there was just *one* male victim of abuse, does he not deserve to be helped? (FYI: There are actually 2.9 million male victims of abuse in the UK.) Well let’s take a look at the Government statistics. Let’s examine how they are in fact biased; and with the help of the UK’s Office for Statistics Regulation, ask the big question at the heart of domestic violence – is it really ‘the vast majority’?
