Football. The world’s biggest and most loved sport is hiding a terrifying secret in Qatar. Thousands of migrant workers, who are mostly men, have lost their lives in the extreme heat and appalling working conditions to build Qatar’s stadiums, airports, hotels and even an entire city, in preparation for the upcoming #worldcup2022 It is a human rights violation that goes beyond comprehension and beggars belief; one that @fifaworldcup and its former corrupt President Sepp Blatter are at the very centre of. 6,500 are now thought to have died. With thousands more suffering as worker passports have been confiscated, other migrants mislead, and the families they’re trying to support are left abandoned and without recourse or explanation. But the roaring crowds care not, and the world remains wilfully ignorant to all the death and sacrifice beneath those glorious green football fields, the luxurious hotels, and sensational stadiums. For the ‘beautiful game’ must go on, no matter the cost.
