It’s arrived. To some it is International Toilet Day, for others ‘every day is mens day!’ But not here. Here #InternationalMensDay matters. But I’m not going to spend it showing you dour graphs of boys failing education, or combing over data on men’s abysmal life expectancy. The pie charts and diagrams of male suicide, homelessness, incarceration and domestic abuse can wait until tomorrow. Today I want to ask – who are men to you? I don’t get to decide, even if I knew. So perhaps we can learn more by looking back at the best and bravest of us? The kindest and cleverest. The most generous, gallant, and grateful. The heroes and the heretics, the innovators and iconoclasts. The men who for a hundred years did wonderful things for humanity, despite what the screaming mob might tell you. So too, today, I wanted to share a poem that’s always been close to my heart, which I think summarises just a small corner of what I think men are. The rest I leave to you, to fill in the blanks of the infinite masterpiece of men. So who are men to you? ~ Images from r/historyporn and r/menaregood #internationalmensday #mensday #menaregood #history
