Be it due to automation, outsourcing, or AI; ‘the future of work’, and the unprecedented shifts in employment that come with it, are being urgently discussed around the world. Will we lose our jobs to robots? Will work be sent overseas? Will the blockchain and AI lead to a tidal wave of mass unemployment? Politicians, journalists, experts, and the general public, prod, poke and probe at these important issues. But one thing is missing… And that is how, as of 2025, this huge change in employment is having a disproportionately large impact on men. In fact - Of all the jobs added to the American economy since the Trump Administration took over in 2025, 94% (!) of them have gone to women. That’s nearly 17 times as many jobs filled by women as by men. It’s a statistic that should worry us all, which, unless we do something, will only continue to get worse. As we know, job loss and unemployment have a huge impact on wellbeing, mental health, financial stability, and suicidality; particularly among men, and so the scale of this job loss could be utterly astronomical. So why are we not talking about it… How do we get more men into the women’s fields of medicine, teaching, psychology, care work, and others? What might such a campaign look like, and why have we not seen it already? What do you think? ~ ’94% of new jobs’ Job growth by sector, 2025 Job growth 2023-2025 BLS Job data
