The war in #Ukraine is only getting worse, with Vladimir Putin announcing the mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of Russian men right across the nation. These men, many of who have no combat experience at all, are being sent to a war they likely don’t support, for a President they never elected and into a country that is not theirs. So many will fight and others hide or flee, with some trying to avoid the draft through hasty marriages with loved ones. There is little autonomy, freedom or privilege here. Those who run face lengthy prison sentences, and even if successful in their escape, can expect little sympathy outside of Russia. Countries like Estonia are shamefully refusing them asylum, and wanting them to go home, ‘to oppose the war’, that they already oppose. Meanwhile, globally the humanitarian efforts remain focused on ‘women and children’, and turn a blind eye to the tens of thousands of men, dead or injured, and strewn across Eastern Europe. So where is the sympathy for the Russian men forced to fight? #ukrainewar #russia #vladimirputin #ukraine🇺🇦
