Did you know on average men live shorter lives than women in every country on earth? Ha! Why would you? I mean we have a wikipedia-moderator-gap to close over here, and god damn it, women need more pockets in their clothing!! Did you know the World Health Organisation have stated the health outcomes of boys and men in most parts of the world, continues to be ‘substantially worse’ than women and girls, and this ‘has received little national, regional or global acknowledgement or attention from health policy-makers or health-care providers?’ Huh? Yea yea yea, look, we need to close the gender gap in iPhone games, and the gap in museum directorships too – did I tell you about the pockets already? So many gender gaps, so many disparities. Money. Power. Land. Status. Promotions. Parental leave. Oscar winners. Superheros. Politicians. Pay. Investment. Custody. Orgasms. But not all gaps are equal. And when it comes to priority’s, I’d say stopping men from dying young and increasing wellbeing within the dwindling years they spend on this planet, is a pretty big one. God damn. Did you know American men can expect to live roughly as long as Saudi Arabian or North Korean women!? And whilst this is partly due to biology, men are more vulnerable to infectious disease due to the XY chromosome, and testosterone can also dampen the immune system, this is by no means the full picture. It’s easy to see – in 1900 American men lived two year less than women, and now in 2020 it’s grown to nearly six. So what changed? Yup. Men are dying younger all over the world, they have higher mortality rates in every age group and according to Harvard Medical School are ‘more burdened by illness in life’ too. And yet… nothing. Nothing at all. Silence.
