@thetinmen was never supposed to create its own content. In fact, this account started life as an anonymous red dot in the comment section of other people’s pages. I was told these spaces were for me too, and assured men were part of the conversation. But when I tried to engage in the discussion, as a man, I was repeatedly told the opposite. “THIS ISN’T ABOUT YOU!” Apparently, I’d had my go and it was women’s turn now, so take a seat and check my privilege. I didn’t understand. As when it comes to the discussion of domestic violence, men have never had a turn, or a voice, ever. “STOP HIJACKING THE CONVERSATION!” How am I hijacking the conversation? If half of abuse victims are men, shouldn’t half of the conversation be about them too? Because it isn’t. Not even remotely close. And soon I saw this wasn’t the kind of ‘equality’ I had grown up being taught. “GO MAKE YOU OWN PAGE!” Again and again and again. The same words. There’s only so many times you can hear them, before you do exactly that. So I ‘made my own space’ and here we are. A place where everyone can have a seat, or talk to the pilot if they need to. So all aboard @thetinmen. ~
