I’ve said it a hundred times before, and I’ll say it again – domestic abuse is not a gendered issue. It a societal issue. Its is a generational issue. It is an issue of learnt childhood behaviour. It is an issue, intersected within a complex web of roughly thirty different social, financial, structural and political risk factors. And let’s be clear – domestic violence can impact anyone, of any gender, anywhere. Yet what is gendered, is our response to those who need us. The men who do step up and speak out, are not treated like other victims; they are mocked, ignored, shouted at, minimised, denied help, and even arrested. So let’s not ask men to talk, but ask, what happened to the men who did talk? Whats your story? ~ #domesticviolence #domesticabuse #abusesurvivor #malesurvivors #menmatter
