Yup. Call outs and clap backs are not things I like to partake in @thetinmen, but despite my best efforts, sometimes it’s impossible to resist. Sometimes… it feels like an obligation to point at laugh. And this morning, lying in bed and seeing @justpearlythings1 was releasing a series of garish t-shirts, that unironically called for society to strip women of the right to vote, was one of those times. It was a level of stupidity, ignorance and misogyny that I had hoped had been consigned to the historical dustbin, but sadly seems to be having quite the resurgence over the last year or so. Grifters and snake oil salesmen preach at the pulpit of masculinity. Self anointed guardians of manhood, spit lyrical in cliches and bombast. Pick up artists, likely with zero success with women, spout nonsense about ‘alpha males’. Each exploiting a large and growing resource within society; disaffected, lonely, and understandably pissed off men and boys. As for this particular instance, the gripes that many have with the kind of rhetoric Pearl yammers on about is clear, and beyond the need for explanation. And whilst I share in this outrage, I must add my own finger wagging; which is, she makes me and those like me look bad. To sit and listen to Peal’s ham fisted attempts of discourse; watching her fumble around, and dick about, makes us all look stupid, and generates an intolerable amount of second hand embarrassment, for me and my community. Thanks to Peal and her merry band of nit-wits, we are all losers now. Meaning anyone who talks positively about boys and men, or advocates for them, is tarred with the same brush of shock, awe, and public outrage. So what do we do about the damage these low effort grifters do to the profile of men and boy’s advocacy? How do we take out the trash? 🗑️ ~ Images by Codioful, Dan Cristian Padure, Kiwi Hug, Black Kiwi Hug, Charles Deluvio and Birmingham Museums Trust.
