If you use semantic sleight of hand to secretly define men out of an issue, then exactly 0% of them are impacted. Let me show you… Men are half of ‘domestic violence’ victims. But 0% of victims of ‘violence against women’ are men. Four in five ‘homicide’ victims worldwide are male, but call it ‘femicide’ - and guess what? That number drops to zero too. I know you’ve all heard the statistic that ’99% of rapists are men’, but did you know that in the eyes of the law and academia, women cannot even commit ‘rape’? So yes – men are 99% of perpetrators of a crime that women literally cannot even commit. My point is, language and political neologisms have become a powerful tool for erasing vulnerable men and boys, in order to then claim they “don’t exist”. The forging of highly gendered terms as “VAWG” and “Femicide”, go against the societal tide of moving toward more gender neutral terms. Society rightly adopts words like ‘firefighter’ to make room for a minority of women, and yet excludes a far larger proportion of female predators and male victims, with their highly gendered narratives and exclusionary definitions of sexual and domestic violence. In fact, last year the Government went full circle: classifying abused men as victims of ‘Violence Against Women’, in the biggest and most absurd slap in the face one could imagine. Now, a new dogmatic neologism has entered the game. Conjured by a bunch of angry pseudo-psychologists who have betrayed children, women, and men, to prop up their own ideological beliefs. I’m talking about the formerly named ‘parental alienation’, being warped into newly-fangled ‘child and mother sabotage’ aka CAMS. So why do we do this? And when does it stop? What do you think?
