There is so little appetite around men and boys advocacy, I am afraid, in many ways, I am the best you’ve got right now.
I can try to answer your questions, with the best information available, but so often the real answer I want to say is: “we dont know.”
We don’t know, because nobody cares enough to find out.
The political apathy and disinterest in men and boys issues is palpable, and important questions are often missing answers.
Perhaps this is no more pertinent than it is within boys educational outcomes, where boys continue to fall well below girls, in every area, at every age group, in every developed country, and every year.
So why are boys behind?
Is it teacher bias? Are learning styles less suitable for their needs? Are they being left behind in affirmative action? Do we need more male teachers? Maybe it’s all, or none of the above, or something else entirely?
“We don’t know.”
And we won’t know until someone asks.
So, amongst the shrugs and empty handed answers for this question, and many others besides, is it finally time we appointed a UK Government Minster for Men and Boys, to find out?
What do you think?
