Childhood can be hard, for everybody, and for so many reasons. And whilst life as a boy child is often presented as that of someone on easy street, as it so often is, the truth is not quite as simple. In fact, the life of a boy child is often a life of neglect, of emotional suppression, of loneliness, bullying and violence. The life of a boy is often to live up to impossible to meet expectations, to be held to some kind of gender archetype, and then to be blamed for building such a ‘system’ yourself. To be a boy is to live in the shadow of others, to be blamed, shamed, and hated, condemned for the actions of those who came before you.
