Intelligence isn’t knowing the entire periodic table of elements, or learning pie to fifty decimal places.
It is not memorising the names of long dead philosophers, without understanding their words.
For me, it is thoughtful, imaginative curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge.
It is well intended and able debate, and understanding your ideas and emotions, with intellectual honesty, eloquence and respect.
It is being able to juggle numerous different ideas, without accepting any of them as truth.
It is reaching for question marks, rather than shouting in exclamations!
It’s being willing, and able, to shift the tectonics of our fundamental understandings, to make room for even the smallest of doubts.
It is humility.
Accepting one’s limitations, and wrongness, admitting what you don’t know, as well as what you do.
It is listening quietly. Granting good faith. Making subtle distinctions and speaking to all people in their own unique way, without being a dick about it.
What is intelligence to you?
